We can understand this with examples. Mediaeval Persian is different from modern Persian. Grammar, vocabulary and meaning also changed over time.

The term Hindustan ,for example, today We understand it as "India" , the modern nation state

. which has common identity, culture, history, national anthem,and flag. but in the mediaeval age the meaning of Hindustan was not so. that time the term Hindustan was used for the areas of Punjab, Haryana and the lands between the Ganga and Yamuna. In political sense,the term Hindustan was used for the lands that were a part of the dominions of the Delhi sultanate.
