Given :  There were three friends, John, Sam, and Tom.

They were standing on a number line.

John was standing in the middle of rational numbers 1 and 2.

Sam was standing in the middle of 1/4, and the number on which John was standing.

Tom was standing in the middle of and the number on which John was standing.

To Find  : Location of each

Solution:

John was standing in the middle of rational numbers 1 and 2.

John was standing = ( 1 + 2)/2  =  3/2

Sam was standing in the middle of 1/4, and the number on which John was standing.

=> Sam was standing in the middle of rational numbers 1/4 and 3/2

Sam was standing = ( 1/4+ 3/2)/2  =  (1 + 6) / 8  = 7/8

Tom was standing in the middle of and the number on which John was standing.

=> Tom was standing in the middle of X and 3/2

This information is missing to find position of Tom
