Thermal stress is caused, when the temperature of a body either increase or decrease (option - 4)

  • Thermal stress occurs when the temperature changes or fluctuates.
  • Stress = F/A where F = force, A= Area
  • Thermal stress is the change in the body or deformity caused due to an External Applied Force which is exerted mainly by a change in temperatures such as strain due to expansion or compression.
  • For example, fracture occurs in a glass when heated at high temperature and immediately dipped into cold water.
