These are small in size & more in number in animal cells but in plant cells they are large in size & few in numbers.They arise from ER pr Golgi apparatus at maturity. They are filled with fluid called cell- sap. Sometime they contain food , they are the vacuoles of cells. The function of vacuoles:-

They maintain the turgidity of the cells

They maintain the water balance

Helps in ingestion & digestion in Amoeba.
