- Virus is a nucleoprotein entity which is able to utilise the synthetic machinery of a living cell of another organism for its multiplication.
- A virus consists of two parts : nucleoid and capsid.
- Nucleoid is the infective part which uses the metabolic machinery of the host cell for synthesis and assembly of viral componentd.
- Capsid is a protein covering around genetic material with protein subunits (capsomeres) and antigenic properties.
- Envelope is an outer loose covering present in some animal viruses, rarely plant and bacterial viruses.It is made of protein (having subunits peplomers of viral origin), lipids and carbohydrates (of host).A virus without envelope is naked virus.
