Biodegradable plastics are defined as those that can be degraded by micro-organisms into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass under specific defined conditions.

“Biodegradable plastics” are made of chemicals that cause them to degrade when exposed to ‘air and light’. However, biodegradable does not mean that they are compostable. It literally means that the plastics are degraded into smaller pieces of plastics that end up existing in the environment, in landfills, water bodies and cause pollution.

These degraded small plastic pieces cannot be decomposed and do not make biological products. Hence they are not much useful for our environment and probably end up causing more pollution.

Biodegradable plastic; Eco friendly

Explanation:

  • Biodegradable plastics are usually made up of renewable raw materials like microorganisms or petrochemicals that are Eco friendly and  and easily bio degradable.
  • some bio degradable plastics are polyhydroxyalkanoates, poly lactic acid, cellulose base plastics, lignin based polymers etc.
  • These are mainly used in packaging of food, grocery stores etc also in medical field.
  • Scientists have made this types of plastics as they are easily degraded or decomposed by micro organisms and bacteria and thus they don't create any pollution in the environment.
