In form of Direct Speech:

  • The actual words of the speaker are put within inverted commas (" ")

  • A comma(,)is used before these words,seperating them from the first part of the sentence.

  • The qouted words begin with a Capital letter.

In form of Indirect Speech.

  • Here,the qouted words are not in inverted commas,but are introduced by conjunction'that'.

  • There is no comma after Reporting Verb 'said'.

  • The tense of the Reporting Verb is never changed.

Ex‐

He said,"I am busy. "

-He said that he was busy.

\rule{300}{2}
