There are some rules that we should keep in mind when converting questions in direct speech into indirect speech :

• The reporting verb 'said' is replaced by the word 'asked'.

• We do not use a conjunction to introduce the reported speech if the question begins with a 'wh-word'.

• The indirect speech is always in the assertive form so we have to use a full stop (.) at the end of the sentence.
