They say "Forgive but not Forget" but how can one truly forgive without forgetting the incident? Can anyone explain?

FORGIVE BUT DON'T FORGET
means one should try forgive but while forgiving, don't forget the incident (why the person hurt you) . One should remember the behaviour which the person behaved with you. If we forgive someone and then forget it , it may proved harmful for ourselves. If we will remember the incident, we will learn how to deal with everyone.
