Given

2 numbers X and Y,

  • If We add the triple of X to the double of Y, we obtain 144.
  • If We subtract the quarter of X from the half of Y.

To Find,

  • The Value of X and Y.

Solution,

Triple of X added to Double of Y is equals to 144.

Quarter of X is substracted from Half of Y is equals to 4.

3X + 2Y = 144 •••(1)

Y/2 - X/4 = 4 •••(2)

Finding the Value of Y in Form of X;

Y/2 - X/4 = 4 •••(2)

→ Y/2 - X/4 = 4

→ Y/2 = 4 + X/4

→ Y/2 = (16 + X)/4

→ Y = (16 + X)/4 × 2

→ Y = (16 + X)/2 •••(3rd)

Substituting The Value of Y in 1st Equation;

3X + 2Y = 144 •••(1)

→ 3X + 2Y = 144

→ 3(X) + 2(16 + X)/2 = 144

→ 3X + 16 + X = 144

→ 4X + 16 = 144

→ 4X = 144 - 16

→ 4X = 128

→ X = 128/4

X = 32

Substituting The Value of X in 3rd Equation;

Y = (16 + X)/2 •••(3rd)

→ Y = (16 + X)/2

→ Y = (16 + 32)/2

→ Y = 48/2

Y = 24

Required Answer,

X = 32

Y = 24
