I lined up at this international conference for a chance to meet a really famous woman who was also one of the keynote speakers at the event. The line was horribly long with so many people jostling to sneak into line. When I got my chance, I gently and very briefly spoke about the school where I worked at and the animal rescue program we had in place. (She's into animal rights.) She didn't bother really connecting, not even looking me in the eye and just dropped my card on the table beside her. She didn't say anything the whole time either. She even looked terribly bored. I felt a piece of my heart break that day. I had so looked forward to meeting one of the heroes from my childhood.

So, what did I learn from my experience with her? Noblesse oblige was something not all famous people possessed. I also realized that what the public knew need not always be real.
