Answer:

Worth 55,000 Indian Rupee (30 k from my pocket and 25 k from loan).

Two and a half years ago, I decided to kick-off a new sport. Running every day was getting more boring every day and I desperately wanted something different. I tried Badminton but quit just within a week. One of my friends suggested why I don’t start cycling as it already has a huge community in Bangalore. I also found out that there is a big-enough community in my college itself so decided to go for it.

I started searching for cycle brands/stores online and found out a store named ‘Specialized’ near my institute. Due to lack of prior knowledge in the field, I thought that Specialized shop implies a store where you can get specialized bicycles but it turned out it’s the name of a huge and expensive cycle company. Almost all the road cycles were above 1,00,000 Rupee which was too high-priced for me. After getting a gist of the cost, I started inquiring if anyone is willing to sell their already used cycle but to no success.

After searching a lot online, reading reviews, and discussion with few riders from college, I finally settled for Decathlon BTWIN road cycle that costs around 55 k; stretching the maximum I could afford. Since I only had 30k with me, I decided to take loan from my institute for 25 k. It is an interest-free loan and was deducted from my stipend in steps of 2.5 k/month.

Till date, my cycle remains one of the best decision of my life. I have done a maximum of 180 km ride over it and go out for two-three short rides (30 k – 50 k) almost every week. Even though I am nowhere close to the professionals but I have improved a lot compared to my early days. I see professionals cruising past me during the rides like an Audi overtaking an Alto and this entire experience is so overwhelming. I should have started cycling long time ago. In fact, since the day I have started cycling, my lost-interest in running too is rejuvenating and I am enjoying running more than I did in recent times.

The next thing in line is swimming so that I can finally participate in a triathlon.
