Answer:

Fossils are the remains of dead organisms such as plants and animals over a period of time.

The study of Fossils is called Paleontology.

Explanation:

Fossils can be identified by two techniques-

A) Radioactive isotope method

  • It is a method used by scientists, which helps them in determining the age of the Fossil.
  • In the Radioactive isotope method, the isotopes of the compounds are measured and the radioactivity of the compounds is checked, hence determining the Fossil's age.
  • For example- from a set of Fossils, different compound isotopes were measured and compared which helps in distinguishing between the parent's fossils' age and the daughter's age.

B) Radiocarbon Dating Method

  • This method is useful for researchers, to find out the Fossil's age by determining the percentage of carbon presence.
  • it is also known as Carbon 14 dating method.
  • because of the presence of 14 isotopes in carbon, it is similar to the radioactivity method.
  • for example- carbon presence in rocks and old age stones can be measured by this method and the analysis can be done.
