*Since there is competition, it keeps the political parties on their toes and that they constantly think of what they can do better for the people.
*Most importantly,if the power lies in a single party (Like in China) or within two parties(like UK) the idea of democracy itself fails at the first step because democracy ensures us a CHOICE.
Demerits:
*As said earlier competition is good,but only if it is a healthy one.And political parties often take competition in a bad manner and might use unfair means to win.
*It might lead to unstable governments if the majority does not lie with a single party.
