If,24=10......(1) & 8=5.....(2) ,then,
16=5...(3)* [Subtracting EQ. 1 from 2]
Again if, 7=5.....(3) & 10=99....(4) ,then,
17=104....(5)** [Adding both EQs. 3 and 4]

16 = 7 and 17 = 9 [(Each number equal the number of letters in their spelling, i.e. 16 (sixteen) is 7 and 17 (seventeen) is 9.]
