Answer:

The problem isn't the total amount of water on the Earth, the problem is the percentage of fresh to salt water. Almost 75% of the Earth's surface is covered with water, but less than 5% of it is fresh water.

If we, as a species, keep breeding like rabbits, fresh water supply will become a definite issue. California has experienced a drought that is crippling it's economy, and has started plans to desalinize ocean water. At that point, it's not going to be cheap to have fresh water available. Pumping water out of a lake or reservoir  for close to free is a reality that may soon cease to exist. The day of having a toilet that takes 20 liters a flush is rapidly fading for a large percentage of humanity. The infrastructure to make fresh water out of salt water costs billions and takes years to create.

Answer:

Since there is water crisis at the global level then we can use the following ways to survive:

1. Water overuse should be stopped immediately and so should be water extensive activities such as washing car/ lawns/ houses, unnecessary gardening, washing clothes in machines.

2. Old, traditional farming techniques should be stopped and drip irrigation should be adopted. Water security systems can also be adopted. So can be water treatment techniques and ways to stop water pollution

3. In short term, we can focus on the general Water saving techniques such as stop leaking taps, use of buckets instead of showers and most importantly creating widespread awareness and stringent laws regarding the same.
