There are two conditions in which the body is at rest but not in equilibrium.
- When the total sum of the force in the body = 0, and the resultant torque = 0. The resultant would be zero if the body is at rest and the consequent would also be zero if a body moves with uniform velocity. Similarly, the net torque will be zero if the rotation of the ceiling fan is in equilibrium.
- Many physicists and experts represent the following examples of a body that is not in equilibrium but at rest. The body is at its highest point when it is thrown as opposed to the gravity and the pendulum is at its last point.
