I was walking down a lane. Returning home from classes on a hot summer afternoon.

It was tiring, the roads that used to be full of traffic were empty. Everyone preferred staying in their residences. The shops were open, their manequins covered with clot. At some distance, I saw a small crowd jumbled near the juice stall.

It was hot. I was sweating profusely. Crows cawed, but couldn't be seen anywhere. The current went off! Overpopulated streets had suddenly become scanty and sparse. As I walked, I could see people seated outside their shops. Trying to bear with the heat. Street animals resided under vehicles and shades of trees or inside small lanes.

There was an old man, seated in the shade, on a 4-legged stool. Some distance away, under the tree by the road side. He had put on a light coloured, faded (used) half sleeved cotton shirt, dark pants, which weren't ironed but did not have creases as such either. He had thick rimmed spectacles with glasses measuring half an inch in thickness. He was sitting on the same side of the pedestrian walk, where I was walking. The man had frizzy grey and scanty hair, slippers in his feet and was frail yet worked. I had never seen that man before in my life. He was busy doing his own work, while I walked from near him.

He saw me, called me out. I went there unbeknownst to what or who that man was. I had some weird feeling, what happened next was something really mysterious and I do not understand what it meant.

He called me and asked what I did, a few questions here and there which I answered.

He said this and smiled, confused I moved ahead. After a while I looked back to find that the man had disappeared although his chair was still there. For many days after that, whenever I used that route I searched for that man. I never saw him or heard from him again.

I reported this incidence to my parents and some of my friends. All of them were confused as I was. This man, his appearance and his words remain in oblivion till date, and I haven't found out why, he told those words.
