a=bq+r

Assume that toot3is rational

root3=p/q

square on both sides

(root3)²=(p/q)²

3 =p²/q²

3q²=p²

3 is a factor of p²

3 is also a factor of p

p=3m

3q²=3m²

3q²=9m²

q² =3m²

3 is a factor of q²

3 is also a factor of q

Hence by our contradiction root3

is irrational

Step-by-step explanation:

2.)a=bq+r

5+3root2=k

3root2 =k-5

root2 =k-5/3

root2 is irrational and k-5/3 is rational so

5+3root2 is irrational
