A substance is a pure single form of matter. It cannot be seperated into other kinds of matter by any physical process.

Difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous mixture----

HOMOGENEOUS -

1) They have uniform composition throughout the mixture.

2) The whole mixture is in same phase.

3) Components are not visible to the naked eye.

4) Components cannot be seperated easily.

Example- Sugar+ water....sugar solution

HETEROGENEOUS-

1) They have mixture which vary from point to point.

2) The substances can be of two phases and layers may seperate.

3) Components of mixture can be easily seen.

4) Components cannot be seperated easily.

Example- Salt+ sand
