South Sudan is the country which faced ethnic violence in its Dafur region and voted to split into two separate sates in 2011.
In 2003, the Dafur region in western Sudan rebelled against the Sudan Government. The conflict was deeply rooted in political, economical and social domination of Arabs (Northern Sudan) over mostly Non-Muslims and Non-Arabs in Southern Sudan. The Sudan Government along with local militia called Janjaweed suppressed the rebellion and killed thousands of people of Dafur.
In 2011 there was a referendum in South Sudan which voted in favor of a separate and independent country.
