The trachea's holds it shapes because of cartiaginous rings arranged along its length which are also called C-shaped cartilage rings.

If the trachea dint have a rigid structure everytime we tried to exhale the pressure in our chests it would collapse the trachea walls.

Cartilage rings also prevents collaping of trachea during respiration by giving it rigidity.
