This fast bowling's really a menace",
I've been hit on elbow and wrist,
I wish that I'd taken up tennis
Or swimming, or snooker, or whist"
The ball has been swerving and swinging
And frequendy beating my bar",
The bowler's voice in my ears ringing
With strident" appeals of "How's that?"
But now my long vigil* is ending
The spinners are up to their trides
And any loose balls I'm intending
Dispatching for four or for six !
This off-spinning" ball I am sweeping"
Away it balloons into space,
Square leg has the ball in safe keeping -
Td much rather bat against pace!​
