Guru Arjan Dev was the fifth Guru of the Sikhs. He was the third son of Guru Ramdas, the fourth Guru of the Sikhs. When Guru Ramdas was about to die, he made Arjun Dev his successor. Guru Arjun Dev had to face opposition from his elder brother Pritichand in the battle of ‘Uttaradhikara’ for the post of Guru, because according to Pritichand he was the eldest son of Guru Ramdas and he became the first right of ‘Guru Gaddi’.
