This is a potato plant. Yes, the potatoes you eat grow underground, attached to the roots. What other function do the roots have?

the roots help in absorbing water from the soil ...it helps in osmosis, active transport

..the water which lift upward to the tree first taken by the roots ..it also abosrbs minerals..
