This is a story of a pair of identical twins. One was a hope-filled optimist who always looked at the
brighter side of life. "Everything is coming up roses !" he would say. The other was a sad and hopeless
pessimist who thought life was one long gloomy journey. He was convinced things would never improve-
in fact it would only get worse and worse. Since both the boys had extreme points of view, their worried
parents took them to the local psychologist.
Aleena ali
The psychologist thought about the problem for a while and suggested a plan to the parents to balance
out the twins' personalities. "On their next birthday. put them in separate rooms to open their gifts. Give
the pessimist the best toys you can afford, and give the optimist a box of crushed paper and pencil
shavings." When the birthday came the parents followed these instructions and carefully observed the
results.
When they looked in on the pessimist, they heard him complaining loudly, "I don't like the colour of this
computer-----------I am sure this calculator will break-------- I don't like this game--------------I know
someone who has got a bigger toy car than this--------------. I hate cars anyways---- - I don't like any of
these things-----
Tiptoeing across the corridor, the parents quietly peeped in to see what the other twin was up to. And
what did they see? Their little optimist was gleefully throwing the crushed paper and pencil shavings up
in the air. He was giggling and talking to himself. "You can't fool me! If there is so much of rubbish here,
there's got to be a lovely stationery set around."

1. he was hopeful that there was better gift for him

2. he did not know that his brother had got better gifts
