Important characteristics of Cathode rays:

   They consist of negatively charged material particles; electrons.

   They produce X rays. When a beam of cathode rays is made to fall upon a hard metallic target like Tungsten, X-rays are produced.

    They cause ionization of gas through which they pass. They are deflected by electric and magnetic fields towards positive field.
