This is often found in deciduous woods at high levation, on screens and rocks. It grows slowly, living to an age of 0 to 100 and when of about 35 m (115 t). Its greyish white wood is of very good quality and that wy considered one of the most important of forest trees. The wood is hard and used to make furniture and tools.
