Solution:

1) Let the four numbers in  the box must be x, y ,z and w.

2)So according to the question we get the four equations as follows:

• x+y = 8----------------(i)

• x+z = 13---------------(ii)

• z-w = 6--------------(iii)

• y+w = 8---------------(iv)

3) If we add eq. (iii) and (iv) we get, y+z = 14

4) Now we will Add eq. (i) and (ii) we get,

• 2x+y+z = 21

• 2x + 14 =21

• 2x = 7/2

• x = 7/2

5) Put the value of x in eq.(i), we get,

• y = 8-7/2

• y = 9/2

6)we will put the value of x again in eq.(ii) we get,

• z = 13-7/2

• z = 19/2

6)now, putting the value of z in eq. (iii) we get,

• w = 19/2-6

• w = 7/2

The numbers in the boxes are 7/2, 9/2, 19/2 and 7/2.
