The Ozone layer absorbs 99% of sun’s ultraviolet radiations which are very harmful for animals and plants.

Ozone layer is called a shield to the earth because it protects earth's stratosphere.

Man made chemicals like CFCs ( Chloro Fluoro Carbons) are weakening the Ozone layer and making holes in it.

It was discovered by Charles Fabry and Henry Buisson of France in 1913.

It is approximately 20 to 30 kilometres above earth's surface and the thickness of this protective layer varies across different regions of the world.

Most of the ultraviolet rays from the sun are absorbed by the earth’s Ozone layer. This layer acts as a shield and protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays, especially the UV-B type of radiation.

Ozone layer is in the stratosphere which is about 10 to 50 kilometres above the earth’s surface. It has a very high concentration of ozone (O^3) compared to other layers of the atmosphere.

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause damage to eye sight and skin cancer.
