To prove this theorem, you have to use Pythagoras theorem.

Let Hypotenuse of triangle be H
Base B
Height P

Acc. to Pythagoras theorem
H²=B²+P²

Divide all by B²

H²/B²=B²/B²+P²/B2
Sec²theta=1+tan²theta
