x-y = 5
x = 5+y
xy = 24
(5 + y)y = 24
5y + y^2 = 24
y^2 + 5y- 24 = 0
y^2 - 3y+ 8y- 24 = 0
y(y - 3) + 8 (y - 3) = 0
y = 3 or - 8
x = 5 + y= 8 or -3
Since x > y
Therefore x = 8 and y = 3
i) sum = 8 + 3 = 12
ii) difference of their cubes = 512 - 27 = 485
iii) sum of their cubes = 512 + 27 = 539
x = 5+y
