Given : This rectangular block contains 64 smaller blocks.

one small block is removed from each corner of the large block

To Find :   how many would be left

Solution:

rectangular block contains 64 smaller blocks.

64 = 1 * 1 * 64

will have only two corners

Hence left = 64 - 2 = 62  blocks

rectangular block contains 64 smaller blocks.

64 = 1 * ( l * b)      l * b = 64  but l , b  ≠ 1  ( can be be 2*32 , 4 * 16 , 8 * 8)

will have  four corners

Hence left = 64 - 4 = 60  blocks

rectangular block contains 64 smaller blocks.

64  = lbh  , l, b & h ≠ 1

can be 2 * 2 * 16  ,  2 * 4 * 8  ,  4 * 4 * 4

Then it will have 8 corners

Hence left = 64 - 8 = 56  blocks
