Mehouviu and Morusa

The wedding day of the two lovers Mehouviu and Morusa was fast approaching. Morusa wanted to show off his gallantry to his going to be wife by doing something brave and daring. So he set out to find an enemy, cut off his head and bring it to Mehouviu as a wedding gift.

Early in the morning he set out for the adjacent village in the North. While travelling through the dense forest he lost his way. When he finally emerged he came to a different village which appeared new to him.

Trying to trace an enemy he found none as most of the men were out working in the field. Dusk was near approaching. Morusa had to decide fast as he had to return home which was far.

As he searched the houses he chanced upon a woman figure with her back towards him. Her hair was flowing untidily down her back. Morusa thought that if he chopped off her head he could return with it to Mehouviu stating that it was that of a witch.

Within a flash he took out his sword and chopped him. Without waiting he took it in his hand and ran home. He reached home quite late. In the wee hours of the morning before the sun was up he set for Mehouviu's home. Once there he flung the head to her and waited for applause.

Instead he was met with a peal of laughter. Everyone was rolling off holding their sides with laughter.  Morusa was startled. Then when he looked at the chopped head he realized it was the head of a scarecrow. Ashamed he bent his head and sought an apology to Mehouviu .

Mehouviu made him promise that there after he and his clan would never practise head hunting again. Hence forth all lived in peace and the two were happily married.
