both really but if i were to say one VS the other, A to surrender.  basically when you give something up you abandon your claim to it and surrender your post.   Abandon meaning walk away from with out looking back.   Surrender meaning resign...so that is why i say if i had to choose i would say if you want to give up a job you surrender your position by tendering a letter of resignation.  You wouldn't simply want to abandon your job, because you may need to tell someone what you were working on or do some kind of turnover.
