Thermometers are made of glass as glass has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. Thus when the thermometer undergoes a large temperature change it will have the least change in dimensions for which we will get an accurate reading of the temperature. If it was some other material than glass, it would expand unevenly and the capillary which hold the mercury will also undergo irregular fluctuations and lead to a faulty measurement.

As far as light bulbs are concerned, it had to be made of something transparent or else we wouldn’t be getting any light. Moreover the material has to withstand a high temperature of the filament and glass proves to be the suitable choice.
