Those who are oppressed do not always rise up in revolution
- the blue rebellion started in 1859 and continued for a year.
- it was a rebellion against the British and the indigo planters for the forcible cultivation of indigo.
- it took place in areas around Bengal and Bangladesh like Jessore, Pubna, Murshidabad, etc.
- for the first time Bengal Intelligentsia came for the support of Indigo cultivators against the British.
- however, in 1892 an artificial synthetic dye was formed and the demand for indigo died . thus the oppressed in this revolt were crushed by the East India Company.
- however, it continued in Bihar leading Champaran satyagraha of 1917 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
