Those who are oppressed do not always rise up in revolution

  1. the blue rebellion started in 1859 and continued for a year.
  2. it was a rebellion against the British and the indigo planters for the forcible cultivation of indigo.
  3. it took place in areas around Bengal and Bangladesh like Jessore, Pubna, Murshidabad, etc.
  4. for the first time Bengal Intelligentsia came for the support of Indigo cultivators against the British.
  5. however, in 1892 an artificial synthetic dye was formed and the demand for indigo died . thus the oppressed in this revolt were crushed by the East India Company.
  6. however, it continued in Bihar leading Champaran satyagraha of 1917 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
