though slow on land, the leather back turtle hold the record for fastest water speed of any reptile: 9.78 m/s. it is also among the largest of reptiles. suppose the largest leather back yet discovered were to swim at a speed of 9.78 m/s. if its kinetic energy was 60,800 J, what would the turtle's mass be?

in this case we use the formula

KE =1/2 mv^2

kinetic energy=60,800 J

speed or velocity =9.78m/s

60800=1/2 m 9.78 × 9.78 ×m

60800=4.89×9.78×m

m=60800/4.89×9.78

m=60800/47.8242

m=1271.32kg

Hope it helped
