Three blocks A, B and C of masses 4 kg, 2 kg and 1 kg respectively, are in contact on a frictionless surface, as shown. If a force of 14 N is applied on the 4 kg block then the contact force between A and B is (a) 6 N(b) 8 N(c) 18 N(d) 2 N

Answer:

A) 6N

Explanation:

The acceleration due to force = 14N ( Given)

Mass A, B, C = 4 , 2 ,1 (Given)

When three blocks are in contact -

Fnet = ma

a = F/ m1+m2+m3

= 14/(4+2+1)

= 14/7

= 2m/s²

Thus, The contact force between A and B is used to move the bodies B and C only.

F = ma

F = (2+1)2

F = 3×2

=6N

Thus, the contact force between A and B is 6N.
