total mass of system = 20 kg

acceleration of system = F/m = 40 N/20 kg = 2.0 m/s2

t3<------3---<----2-----1

string t2 pulls blocks 2 and 1, so

the tension in the string t2 = (m1 +m2) a = 32 N

Given that,

Mass of first block m_{1}=10\ kg

Mass of second block m_{2}=6\ kg

Mass of third block m_{3}=4\ kg

Total force = 40 N

We need to calculate the acceleration

Using formula of force

F=ma

a=\dfrac{F}{m}

Put the value into the formula

a=\dfrac{40}{10+6+4}

a=\dfrac{40}{20}

a=2\ m/s^2

t₂ is applied on first and second block

We need to calculate the tension t₂

Using formula for tension t₂

F=ma

Put the value into the formula

F=(10+6)\times2

F=32\ N

Hence, The tension t₂ will be 32 N.
