Three bodies A, B and C are moving in the same direction along a straight line
path.
(a) Find their acceleration and arrange in ascending order.
(b) At what time do they meet each other?
(c) What is the velocity of A when B starts moving ?
(d) Find the distance covered by B till it meets A and C.
(e) What distance is covered by A in first 10 seconds of its motion ?

(a) The acceleration of the bodies:

Acceleration of A:

A = (40 - 20)/(8 - 0) = 2.5 m/s²

Acceleration of B:

B = 0 m/s²

Acceleration of C:

C = (40 - 0)/(8 - 4) = 40/4 = 10 m/s²

In ascending order:

B < A < C

(b) They meet each other at 8 seconds.

(c) The velocity of A when B starts moving:

When B starts moving, then the time is 4 seconds. At 4 second, the velocity of A is 40 m/s.

(d) Distance covered by B till it meets A and C:

When B meets, the velocity is 40 m/s and the time taken is 4 seconds.

Distance = Speed × Time

On substituting the values, we get,

Distance = 40 × 4 = 160 m

(e) Distance covered by A in first 10 seconds of its motion:

When the time is 10 seconds, the velocity of A is 45 m/s.

Distance = 45 × 10 = 450 m
