Given   :  Three cellphones are chosen from 5 cellphones of which 3 are good ones and 2 are defective.

To Find :

A) sample space. Denote the good ones with "G" and defective ones "D"

B) what is the probability of getting 2 good ones and

C) the probability of getting 2 defective ones?

Solution:

sample space = { G₁ , G₂ , G₃ , D₁ , D₂ }

probability of getting 2 good ones   = ³C₂/⁵C₂

2 good ones out of 3 can be selected in  ³C₂  ways

2   out of 5  can be selected in  ⁵C₂  ways

= 3/ 10

= 0.3

probability of getting 2 defective ones =  ²C₂/⁵C₂

2 defective ones out of 2 can be selected in  ²C₂  ways

2    out of 5  can be selected in  ⁵C₂  ways

=2/ 10

= 0.2
