Given :  Three circles with fixed centres placed one beside the other have diameters 20% more than that of it’s “left neighbour”. If the leftmost circle completes 200 revolutions,

To find : how many revolutions will the rightmost circle complete?

Solution:

Let say Diameter of left most   =  D   unit

Then Diameter of next = D + (20/100)D = 1.2D unit

Diameter of right most  = 1.2D  + (20/100)(1/2D) = 1.44 D  unit

Circumference = π * Diameter

Circumference of  Left most =  πD  unit

Circumference of  next =  π(1.2D)    unit

Circumference of  right most =  π(1.44)D   unit

1 revolution =  Circumference

200  revolution of  left most circle = 200 * (πD)  unit

Distance covered = 200 * (πD)  unit

Distance covered by right most =  Revolutions * π(1.44)D

Revolutions * π(1.44)D  = 200 * (πD)

=> Revolutions by right most  = 200/1.44

=> Revolutions by right most  = 138.9

approx 139  revolutions
