Three clear cut phases in life cycle of annual and biennial plants are JUVENILE,REPRODUCTIVE and SENESCENT phases.
As annual and biennial type of plants complete their life cycle in one and two years respectively we can see the three phases in their life cycle.
I dont think it is difficult to define these phases in biennial plants.
In case of perennial plants as they live for many years it is difficult to distinguish above phases.
As perennial plants have different flowering flowering periods such as some flowers in 12 years some in 50 years and some may take even 100 years it s difficult to define these phases.
