Solution : -

Length of each side of cubes = 6cm

Now, 3 cubes are joined end to end

So, the Length of resulting cuboid will be 6+6+6 = 18cm

But the Breadth and Height will remain same

So, Breadth = 6cm and Height = 6cm

Surface area of resulting cuboid

\bf= 2(lb + bh + hl) \\\\= 2(18 \times 6 + 6 \times 6 + 6 \times 18) \\\\= 2(108 + 36 + 108)\\\\= 2(252) \\\\= 2 \times 252\\\\= 504

Hence, the total surface area of resulting cuboid = 504 cm square

Surface area of resulting cuboid is 504 cm².

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

  • Three cubes,each of side 6cm,are joined end to end.

To find:

  • Find the surface area of the resulting cuboid.

Solution:

Concept to be used:

  • Surface area of cuboid\bf =2(lb + bh + lh) here; l,b,and h are length, breadth and height of cuboid respectively.
  • By joining 3 cubes of each side 'a', end to end, a cuboid of length '3a' is formed.

Step 1:

Calculate the length, breadth , and height of cuboid.

On joining 3 cubes end to end, as shown in attachment.

Length of resultant cuboid (l): 18 cm

Breadth of resultant cuboid (b): 6 cm

Height of resultant cuboid (h): 6 cm

Step 2:

Calculate total surface area.

Apply values in formula of surface area of cuboid.

Area = 2((18 \times 6) +( 6 \times 6 )+ (18 \times 6)) \\

or

Area = 2(108 +36+ 108) \\

or

Area = 2(252) \\

or

\bf Area = 504 \:  {cm}^{2}  \\

Thus,

Surface area of resulting cuboid is 504 cm².
