The surface area of the resulting cuboid is 224 cm².

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :  each side of the cube is 4 cm.

When three cubes are joined end to end, then the resulting solid is a cuboid.

 Length of the cuboid,( l) = 3 × each side of the cube = 3 × 4 cm = 12 cm

Breadth of the cuboid,(b) = each side of the cube = 4 cm

Height of the cuboid, (h) = each side of the cube = 4 cm

Surface area of the cuboid = 2 (lb + bh + hl)

 = 2 (12 cm × 4 cm + 4 cm × 4 cm + 4 cm × 12 cm)

 = 2 (48 + 16 + 48) cm

 = 2 × 112 cm²

 = 224 cm²

Hence, the surface area of the resulting cuboid is 224 cm².
