Three deshelled eggs were put in 3 solutions namely x,y and z respectively. In solution 'x' the egg swelled and in solution 'y' the egg got shrunken and in solution 'z' the egg remained same . Identity the solution x, y and z ,and explain the phenomena happend in the 3 solutions?

In x, endosmosis took place because the surrounding solution was hypotonic (dilute). Endosmosis means that due to concentration gradient/difference, water moves from the dilute solution (surrounding) to the deshelled egg (inside).

In y, exosmosis took place, because the surrounding solution was hypertonic (concentrated). Again, as a result of concentration gradient, water moved from dilute solution (inside) to surrounding (outside) leading the eggshell to shrink.

In z, since it was an isotonic (same concentration inside and outside) solution, the egg neither shrink nor swell.
