Answer:

Pure substance – A substance which is made up of only one type of constituent particles. It has definite composition and properties.Example : pure water is made of only one type of molecule i.e., H2O.Similarly all elements are pure.A pure substance has a sharp melting and boiling point.

Impure substance - A substance which is made up of different types of constituent particles. It doesnot have a definite composition and properties.Example : Mixtures like air, soil etc. An impure substance doesnot have a sharp melting and boiling point.

Your Answer:

✒ Pure substance and Mixture (Option A)

❇ Explanation:

On the basis of chemical nature or chemical classification of matter, Matter is divided into two main groups:

Pure substances

Impure substances (mixture)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Pure substance:

It is a homogenous substance which contains same kind of particles and have definite set of properties. Or Jt is a substance composed of two or more different kind of particles combined in fixed proportion by weight..

That is,

Elements (Can not broken)

Compounds (Can be broken by chemical methods)

✏The composition of a pure substance cannot be altered by physical means. They have definite chemical properties like melting point, density, boiling point etc.

Impure substance (Mixture)

When two or more substances are physically mixed together in any proportion, such that they do not undergo any chemical change, but retain their individual characteristics, the resulting product is called mixture.

Homogenous

Heterogeneous

✒ Characteristics of Pure substances:

A pure substance is homogenous in nature.

A pure substance has a definite set of properties.

The composition cannot be altered by any physical means.

The pure substance has a definite chemical properties like melting point, density etc.

✒ Characteristics of Impure substances:

A mixture can be homogenous or heterogeneous.

The constituents can be separted by physical means or methods.

Energy is neither absorbed or evolved.

No definite chemical properties.

The constituents of a mixture retain their original set of properties.
