a) bcoz through the layer of oil on water the contact of air with iron nail is reduced that's why rusting didn't take place.
b) bcoz iron nail is in contact with air.
c) not sure but I think the answer is no .

a. The nail in the test tube 2 is not rusted because it is placed in substances such as boiled water and oil which prevents rusting.

Explanation:

  • Water is the major factor that causes the oxidation procedure. Without water, oxygen can't start the oxidation procedure.
  • As oil and water don't blend, the component placed in these substances doesn't get rusted as shown in test tube 2.

b. The nail in the test tube 1 is highly rusted because it is placed in the condition which is highly feasible for rusting.

Explanation:

  • Any object which is placed in open space, when it comes in contact with water, it leads to the spontaneous oxidation process.
  • As the nail placed in test tube 1 is exposed to water as well as air, it causes rusting at a high rate due to the high rate of oxidation.

c. No the nail in the test tube 3, will not get rusted.

Explanation:

  • The chemical such as calcium chloride dries out the air.
  • As the air is absent, rusting is not feasible. Thus the nail will not get rusted.
