Intensive farming or intensive agriculture is a kind of agriculture where a lot of money and labor are used to increase the yield that can be obtained per area of land. The use of large amounts of pesticides for crops, and of medication for animal stocks is common. Intensive farming uses machines, fertilizers, man-power and high-yield crops to maximize the amount of food produced. Farmers growing arable crops often specialize in growing only one crop to maximize their profits. This is called mono-culture . It can quickly reduce key nutrients in the soil and lowers biodiversity.
